Intel up four while the rest of tech bled out — that's today's story and it doesn't need a preamble.
Intel up 4.03%. Sector outlier, full stop. Oracle up 2% — cloud momentum holding. AMD up 1.65%, chips quietly grinding. Those are your green lights for the session.
Now the damage. Exxon down 3.54% at 163. Energy getting hit hard. Bank of America down 2.72% at 57.90 — financials under pressure, and the Dow futures back that up. Salesforce down 2% at 250. Netflix down 1.91% at 76. Microsoft down 1.37% at 490. JPMorgan down 1.01% at 348 — that's two major financials bleeding the same session. Amazon down 0.99%. Costco down 0.84%. Even Nvidia, up 0.82%, couldn't carry the room. The giants had a rough Thursday.
Macro picture. SPY closed down 0.44%. QQQ basically flat at plus 0.03% — Nasdaq held its ground better than everything else. IWM down 0.43%, small caps soft. DIA down 1.15% — that's the Dow taking the real hit today. VIX sitting at 17.71. Not panicking, not comfortable. Elevated enough to keep traders honest.
Asian markets — no data available tonight. Trade blind on that front.
Gold — no data available.
Nothing on the economic calendar. Zero. Fed day is tomorrow and the market already knows it. The quiet is deliberate.
Earnings on deck: AMEN, BIOQ, UPXI — EPS estimate negative 12 cents, so expectations are in the gutter. ESP — EPS estimate 96 cents, that's the one to watch for a surprise. GFLT and GWOX also reporting. Small names, but misses move small names fast.
The read on today: tech was split down the middle, energy got crushed, banks softened on both sides, and the Dow absorbed the most pain. Intel's move was real. The rest of the green was modest. Red was broad. VIX says stay sharp.
Numbers don't lie. People do. Trade accordingly.
