Two Fed headlines dropping simultaneously — enforcement actions and stress test timing, both landing on financials right now.
First: The Fed has issued enforcement actions against former employees of Atlantic Union Bank and Frost Bank. Individual-level, not institutional — but don't sleep on that distinction. The Fed doesn't chase individuals for sport. These actions exist because something happened, and both banks now have disclosure calendars that didn't exist yesterday. Watch for 8-Ks.
Second, and this is the one that actually reprices things: stress test results drop Wednesday, June 24th, four p.m. Eastern. Hard date. Every major bank holding company is sitting on that number right now — and so is every analyst who's been penciling in buybacks and dividends for the back half of the year. A clean pass means capital return guidance holds. A conditional pass or a failure means management gets back on the phone and walks it all back. That conversation is not fun.
Large-caps, regionals, anything with a holding company structure — your capital return assumptions for Q3 and Q4 are unresolved until June 24th. That's not a maybe. That's the calendar.
Two headlines. One date that actually matters. Everything else is noise until the Fed publishes.
The numbers are the numbers. Management can spin. We don't.
