Some days the tape hands you a contradiction wrapped in a press release. Today it handed you ten of them.
Eaton gaps seven point three percent on a print where revenue fell fifteen point one percent year over year. Read that again. The stock rips while the top line collapses. EPS grew three point two percent, which means they squeezed the lemon hard, but there is not much lemon left. At a price-to-earnings of forty point four, the market is paying for a growth story that the revenue line is not currently telling. That footnote on the margin bridge is where I am going first.
Cboe Global Markets earns the cleanest print of the day. EPS up fifty three point five percent, net margin at twenty five point eight, and the stock gaps nearly five percent. Volatility was the product and volatility sold well. The question is whether that fee capture repeats when the tape calms down.
Ares Management is up three point two percent on thirty eight point five percent revenue growth. For an alternative asset manager, that top-line velocity is not an accident — it is fee-bearing AUM compounding. The ten point five percent net margin looks thin, but fee-related earnings are the number that matters here, and the Street knows it.
Church and Dwight gaps one point two percent on two point two percent revenue growth and EPS up thirty percent. That spread between top-line and earnings is a margin story, and in consumer staples, margin stories have short shelf lives when volumes are this soft. Worth watching.
Dominion Energy edges down less than one percent despite revenue growth of nineteen point four percent and EPS up twenty seven percent. Utilities do not get credit for growth — they get credit for predictability. The market shrugged, which is almost the point.
Colgate-Palmolive is flat on the day but EPS is down twenty seven percent year over year against a net margin of ten percent. Pricing power carried this company for two years. Now volume has to carry it back, and the early read is that the consumer is pushing back. At thirty five times earnings on a shrinking earnings base, that is a valuation conversation that gets uncomfortable fast.
AbbVie drops two point five percent. EPS down thirteen point five percent, net margin at five point eight percent, and the stock is trading at one hundred twenty two times earnings. The Humira cliff is not a metaphor — it is a revenue event happening in real time, and the pipeline acquisitions cost money before they make money. That price-to-earnings multiple is the market betting hard that Skyrizi and Rinvoq get there. If they do not, reversion is violent.
Anglogold Ashanti falls three point seven percent despite EPS up eighty three percent and a net margin of thirty one percent. Gold printed. Earnings printed. The stock sold off. That is either a valuation reset or someone knows something about the hedge book. I want to see the cost per ounce disclosure before I accept the margin at face value.
Cameco drops two point one percent. EPS up one hundred sixty one point eight percent sounds extraordinary until you remember uranium is a contracting business, and the market is asking whether spot prices hold. At eighty one times earnings, the answer has to be yes, and it has to stay yes.
Chevron is up two point four percent on EPS down thirty three point nine percent. Revenue fell three point six percent and net margin sits at five point nine. Integrated majors trade on cash flow and buyback capacity, not margin — which is exactly why the stock can gap up on a print this soft.
Full teardowns coming on Eaton and AbbVie. One is a margin illusion sitting on a broken revenue line. The other is a hundred-and-twenty-two multiple parked on a patent cliff with a prayer attached.
That is the menu. The numbers were always there — most people just do not look. See you at the next filing.
