META ran the whole show today and everything else looked confused.
META up 6.55%, closing at 653.69. That's the story of the session, full stop. AMD up 3.04% to 521.10 — chips caught a bid. INTC up 1.69% to 106.24, tagging along. XOM up 2.22% to 164.23, energy quiet but green.
On the red side — GOOGL down 2.28% to 330.65. CRM off 1.99% to 244.16. UNH dropped 1.94% to 393.06. AMZN slipped 1.78% to 252.40. AVGO down 1.13% to 364.38. NVDA off 0.91% to 223.67 — the chip giant had a quiet session while AMD did the heavy lifting.
Tech was split. One name carried the index while the rest dragged.
Futures: SPY down 0.46%, QQQ down 0.29%, DIA off 0.75%. Small caps took the worst of it — IWM down 1.37%. Broad market pointing lower heading into tomorrow. VIX sitting at 16.46 — not panicked, but not comfortable either. Gold data unavailable. Asian markets unavailable overnight.
Nothing on the economic calendar tomorrow. No scheduled data drops. That puts all eyes on price action and tape.
On earnings — after the close tonight, ANAB reports with an EPS estimate of negative seven cents. BUKS also after the close, no estimate available. CRMT reports after the close with an estimate of negative seventy-eight cents — a deep red expectation. Before the open tomorrow: HOFT with an estimate of negative two cents, MNY at negative two cents as well, and RENT with no estimate on the board. None of these are market movers at scale, but CRMT's setup is notable — deeply negative expectations already baked in.
Bottom line: META dragged the session away from something uglier. Without that one name, the tape looks rough. Futures confirm the softness carries. Small caps are getting hit hardest — IWM down nearly one and a half percent doesn't lie. No macro catalysts tomorrow, so the market has to find its own answer.
Numbers don't lie. People do. Trade accordingly.
