Semis got hit, small caps got hit harder, and somehow Amazon decided today was its day — buckle up.
Nvidia down 4.58%, closing at 217.55. Led the chip wreckage. AMD down 2.33% at 465.58 — followed Nvidia straight down. Intel dropped 2.85% to 89.47. Three chip names, one direction. Semis had a rough Monday.
Amazon up 3.97% to 266.43. Biggest mover on the board, full stop. Google up 1.74% at 346.59. Microsoft gained 1.68%. Apple added 1.63%. Meta up 1.21%. Salesforce moved 1.57% — Dow component, worth noting. Big Tech mostly held the line while chips burned.
Netflix up 2.35% to 81.72. Quiet outperformer. Bank of America added 1.88% to 62.32 — financials steady.
Tesla down 1.71% to 348.75. No catalyst, just red.
On the ETF tape: SPY down 0.23%. QQQ down 0.65% — tech drag visible there. IWM down 1.35%. Small caps took the sharpest hit on the session. DIA barely moved, off 0.03% — Dow held its ground.
Futures confirm the softness. SPY and QQQ both negative heading into the session. VIX sitting at 14.43 — elevated but not panicked. Gold up 0.33%, quiet bid on the safe-haven side.
Asian markets unavailable overnight. No economic data on the calendar today. On earnings, ABLT reports with a base EPS estimate of 0.0074. BOE, CIK, and COE also on the slate — all light names, nothing index-moving.
The story today is rotation. Money left chips, found a home in mega-cap tech and select financials. Small caps absorbed the most damage. Watch whether QQQ can recover that 0.65% gap or if the chip drag compounds into tomorrow.
Numbers don't lie. People do. Trade accordingly.
