Tech is bleeding into a short holiday session and TSLA just had a rough night's sleep.
Futures first. SPY down 0.13. QQQ down 1.73 — the Nasdaq is getting hit. IWM down 0.58. DIA bucking it, up 1.05. Gold up 2.06. VIX sitting at 15.99 — calm but not comfortable. Asian markets unavailable. No economic data scheduled today.
Now the movers.
TSLA down 7.49% to $393.45. That's the headline. Whatever happened overnight, it landed hard. INTC down 5.25% to $120.35 — semi weakness, no catalyst needed lately. META down 4.90% to $582.90, following the Nasdaq lower. AMD down 4.26% to $517.82 — chips getting crushed across the board. Broadcom down another 2.41% to $360.45 — the semi bleed is broad, not isolated.
Flip side. AAPL up 4.84% to $308.63 — standout in a red session. NFLX up 4.66% to $77.65 — streaming holding. COST up 2.92% to $951.67 — consumer staples catching a bid. WMT up 2.78% to $111.84 — same story, defensive rotation. Lilly up 1.86% to $1,213.91 — healthcare quietly participating. Salesforce up 1.76% to $166.11 and Microsoft up 1.62% to $390.49 — two enterprise names holding green while the rest of big tech gets sold off. That divergence is worth watching.
The split is clean. Mega-cap tech and semis are getting sold. Consumer staples and select large-caps are absorbing that money. DIA outperforming QQQ by nearly three points says everything about where the rotation is sitting right now.
One earnings name on the radar — SBSAA. Small cap, tread carefully.
Bottom line: it's a half day, liquidity thins fast, and the tape is already fractured before the open. TSLA's drop alone could drag sentiment. But AAPL at plus 4.84 in a down tape is not nothing.
Numbers don't lie. People do. Trade accordingly.
