The Fed just dropped two major policy moves — and if you're in any bank stock right now, you need to hear this.
First hit: The Federal Reserve wants public comment on rewriting its anti-money laundering program requirements for banks. Comment period means rule change is already in motion — compliance costs follow, and they land hardest on the mid-tier names that can't absorb them the way the majors can.
Second hit: Annual stress test results are out. Large banks passed clean. The Fed says the big institutions can weather a severe recession and keep lending — no failures, no asterisks.
Two moves, two different timelines. The stress test is a near-term green light for the large-cap bank trade. The AML overhaul is the slow burn — regional and mid-tier banks with leaner compliance infrastructure carry the longer tail risk here. KYC doesn't get cheaper. It gets more of everything.
Clean bill of health on one side. A tighter leash being built on the other. That spread is where the trade lives.
Numbers don't lie. People do. Trade accordingly.
